Tips for science teachers for first graders

Life as a teacher can be daunting. Life as a science teacher is more daunting. You will have to deal with a lot of questions being asked from students and you might be reminded of yourself as well.

Make friends

Make friends with the staff first. This is very important, as these individuals will help you feel right at home and also guide you with things that are being followed at the school. If you need to plan an excursion, other teachers will be able to help you prepare the permission slips and organise it as well.

Learning about the others

Learning about the individuals you work with is a good step. This does not mean that you only stick to the science faculty.  You will need to speak to a lot of individuals and try and learn about why they got into teaching. Ensure that you try and create bonds outside the workplace as well.


Be open with your colleagues

If you need help, do not be afraid to ask for assistance. They will be able to help you with dissections, carrying apparatus and so many things that you will need support with. Teachers will support you and be open with you when help is needed, so you are entitles to ask for help as well.



Read about the strategies that a science teacher can follow when you have a room of high-energized children. You might be able to pick up on some tips about how you can handle these children and their behaviours. You will always have to keep an eye on your students especially if they are from smaller grades.

Be friendly

Do not be a scary teacher to your students. Try and have fun with the students but maintain your composure so that you do not go overboard when having fun with the kids. You should ensure that the students respect you even though you have fun.


Brush up

If you do not know a concept when teaching, do not pretend or teach the children something incorrectly. You can always come back to the children the next day and let them know what they need to know. This is a good way to earn a student’s trust and respect.
